When Fighters for Good Hope Children Home first opened its doors in 2022, it was more than just the realization of Lubanga Nsubuga Falcon’s dream, it was the spark that lit a fire in the hearts of an entire community.
At first, the idea seemed ambitious. A safe haven for orphans and homeless children, built from scratch in the wake of the pandemic’s economic and social devastation, was no small undertaking. But Falcon’s determination was contagious. His passion stirred something deep in the people of Kigavu and beyond.
Neighbors began showing up with whatever they could spare a sack of maize flour, a bundle of clothes, a few shillings saved from market sales. Local farmers donated fresh produce from their harvests. Teachers volunteered their evenings to tutor the children. Skilled tradespeople offered their labor to repair the building, paint the walls, and build simple furniture.
Churches and mosques spread the word during services, urging their congregations to stand behind the cause. Youth groups organized charity football matches, with proceeds going directly to the home. Even those with little to give found ways to contribute like cooking meals, fetching water, or simply spending time with the children so they felt loved and valued.
It was as if the entire community had decided, together, that these children were their children.
The phrase “A Community United for Change” became more than a slogan — it became a living truth. It was seen in the way strangers became friends, in the way small acts of kindness multiplied into something powerful, and in the way hope began to ripple outward from the home into the streets, schools, and marketplaces.
Through this unity, Fighters for Good Hope Children Home grew stronger than Falcon had ever imagined. It was no longer just his vision, it belonged to everyone. And together, they were proving that when a community stands as one, it can change the course of countless lives.
