The Beginning of Fighters for Good Hope Children Home

In early 2020, Uganda like the rest of the world is shaken by the COVID‑19 pandemic. The government moves quickly to protect lives, enforcing lockdowns, closing schools, banning gatherings, and restricting travel across districts. These measures slow the spread of the virus, but they also carry painful consequences.

The economy suffers its worst decline in twenty years. Tourism collapses, exports slow, and service industries such as education and hospitality are hit hardest. Informal workers, who make up the majority of Uganda’s labour force, lose their daily incomes almost overnight.

For children, the impact is severe. With schools closed for months, many lose not only their education but also the meals and safety nets that schools provide. Some are pushed into child labour to help their families survive. Others, already vulnerable, end up abandoned or on the streets.

It is in this atmosphere of hardship that Lubanga Nsubuga Falcon feels a deep conviction to act. Seeing the growing number of children without care, he knows waiting for things to improve is not an option.

In 2022, together with a small group of committed friends, Falcon founds Fighters for Good Hope Children Home. The mission is simple but urgent: to create a safe haven for orphans and homeless childrena place where they can find shelter, love, and the chance to rebuild their lives.

Humble Beginnings, Steadfast Vision

The home started in a modest rented house. Resources are limited, but the vision is strong. The first children arrive with little more than the clothes they wear and the burdens of their past. Falcon and his team give them warm meals, clean beds, andmost importantly is a sense of belonging.

Over time, the home grows into a vibrant community. Education becomes the foundation, with every child enrolled in school and supported through tutoring. Counseling and mentorship help them heal from trauma. Play and creativity return to their lives in football matches in the compound, songs sung under the night sky, and art projects that bring colour and joy to the walls.
